An urgent call to action

PROBLEM

Food packaging waste is a significant environmentally
degrading aspect of the food industry that consumers somewhat neglect. This is a global environmental issue that calls for much more
sustainable practices.
Food packaging is effecting the human health and the
environment.
OBJECTIVES

Help people understand
their role in being more sustainable, track their lifestyle and their impact on the environment.

GOAL

Our goal is to create a social awareness of the amount of waste being generated by each individual, and help reduce it.

Joining the climate pledge, reaching net-zero carbon by 2040 by turning climate crisis
into climate action.

REDUCING FOOD PACKAGING WASTE:
STRATEGY
The first step in reducing waste is to measure and track the amount, type of, and reason for the food and packaging being discarded.

02. APPLICATION INTERFACE/DESIGN






Visual form 
Inspired by the productivity of bees in nature, the visual form chosen is a hexagon as an infographic element. A  hexagon is the shape that best fills a plane with equal size units and leaves no wasted space.





The hexagon is divided into 3 zones starting from the center going futher. The first zone near the center is a safe generation zone, second zone is over gerenation and the third is excess generation.

Each dot represents the item purchased. Any blue dot is considered safe, however any red dot is considered excess generation.

If your waste generation is safe your hexagon
will be green and complete.


03. USER FLOW
Designed a flow that would make sense to the user and provided all the features  to meet the user’s needs.

The app flow is very simple and understandable.

Including the 4 main features:
- Home screen
- Scanner/analysis screen
- History  screen
- Profile screen

SCANNER

Scanning feature is very user friendly. You just scan your reciept within the frame provided and press scan.

It will take a few seconds to analyse and switch to analysis screen.

SCORES

NUTRI-SCORE
A calculation of an overall nutritional value rating of food products purchased.

GROW-SCORE
A calculation of an overall waste generation rating of food packaging purchased.

HOME SCREEN

The main screen provides a generative design that acts as a data visualisation of a monthly score, both grow and nutri scores.

The aim of this diagram is to show  how human health and well-being are intimately linked to the state of the environment.

Once the circle becomes full, the user reaches the ultimate state of unity.

HISTORY

The users are able to view their consumption history through this feature.

Dates, stores, locations and spendings are easily accessible at anytime.

An overlay will pop-up to view all related details.

Users will get alert messages to help them define the problem and make better choices.
